Last week, there was a big shake up in the Ontario Newspaper Industry. Torstar and Postmedia switched ownership of many of their small newspaper holdings, and many small community newspapers were suddenly closed. This was a terrible shock for the employees of those papers, and for the local communities who depend on them for updates and sharing events. My story, Pauline, Smoke and the War of 1812 was due to be published in the Niagara Advance last week. It was lost in the paper closings. So, I've posted it on the website in hopes that Pauline's story, and her beautiful poem, 'And he said, Fight On' will be read by others.
