Take a ferry ride across the Bras D'or Lake and then drive high into the mountains. Pull over to the scenic lookout and look for the fragile link to the other side. The trees will try to keep you frozen to this magnificent scene. How often do we look back at where we've been and marvel at the sight, and realize it's different than the experience?
Who would have thought that nature would provide such a spectacular event on a warm night in front of the Home Depot store in Saratoga Springs, NY? The vivid contrast of the orange sunset with the deep indigo clouds and hints of cobalt sky was a stunning surprise when I exited a store packed with Hallowe'en and Christmas decorations fighting for consumer interest. Just look at the sky for real decorations that are beyond human creative possibilities.
I wasn't disappointed this morning. The loon joined me, diving and disappearing, then racing across the water, flapping until he was airborne. Then there was silence and only the light on the water and the cliff and a little breeze to separate them.
